RARE 1919 French Art Deco Van Cleef & Arpels Jewellery Advert Pochoir
$100
SHIPPING OFFERED
Striking and very rare original 1919 hand coloured stencilled pochoir lithograph advertising the high end French jewellery company Van Cleef et Arpels whose shop was at 22 Place Vendome Paris. The image is a wealthy man in evening dress and monocle offering a long pearl necklace to his beloved with a line below from the Verlaine poem 'Et puis voici mon coeur qui ne bat que pour vous', meaning 'And then here is my heart which beats only for you'. The pochoir has fabulous lettering and vibrant colours and although there is no artist credit the style is reminiscent of the French artist Edouard Halouze (1895 - 1958). This stunning early Art Deco pochoir comes from Louis Vogel's luxurious and short lived publication Les Feuillets d'Art.
The pochoir is printed on thick high quality Verges paper and the page measures approximately 33 cm x 25 cm. As you can see in my photos the paper has ageing and brown marks but this is a very stylish image that will frame up beautifully. It's the perfect piece for a lover of Art Deco style and illustration.
There were only 6 issues of Les Feuillets d'Art which makes them very rare. They were published in Paris by Lucien Vogel between May 1919 and July 1920 as limited edition portfolios covering literature, theatre, arts and design, music and fashion and the 3 later ones also featured examples of advertising. Each issue included several loose lithograph plates that were individually hand coloured using stencils in what was known as the 'pochoir' process. The images were designed by the leading illustrators of the day and these pochoirs are now highly collectable.
Please examine all the photos carefully and contact me if you have any questions. Pick up from Kensington NSW 2033 in Sydney Eastern Suburbs.
I'm downsizing and selling Art Deco pochoirs from La Gazette du Bon Ton, Le Journal des Dames et des Modes and Les Feuillets d'Art, fashion, photography and design books and magazines and a variety of other items.
