Very rare copy of the September 1955 International Fashions edition of British Vogue with a stylish cover illustration by Carl 'Eric' Erickson of a check batwing cape, toning tweed suit and orange hat by the London designer Michael. This is a big thick 264 page issue packed with gorgeous Fifties fashion that showcases the Paris, London and Italy Autumn Winter Collections with designers including Christian Dior, Cristobal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy, Jacques Fath, Hardy Amies, Charles Creed, Digby Morton, Norman Hartnell, John Cavanagh and Simonetta. Other fashion spreads have shoe news, sweaters from the Continent, new colours and fabrics for dressmaking with the new Vogue patterns, theatre dressing, ‘More Taste than Money’, Young Idea, classic clothes to wear in the country, accessories, revolutionary new stretch stockings and teenage fashion. There's also a profile of Audrey Hepburn and her then husband Mel Ferrer at their villa near Rome with a famous Norman Parkinson photo of Audrey and her pet donkey Bimba.
The editorial photographers include Henry Clarke, Norman Parkinson, Hans Hammarskiöld, Donald Silverstein, Ted Croner, William Klein, Erwin Blumenfeld and Robert Doisneau and there are fashion illustrations by Eric, Alfredo Bouret and RRT Sonché. Famous 1950s models include Anne St Marie, Tye Pagan Grigg, Joy Weston, Susan Abraham, Anne Gunning, Wenda Parkinson and Simone d’Aillencourt. There are lots of gorgeous full page mid 1950s adverts too and this is a really fabulous issue.
The magazine has general age wear to the covers and spine as can be seen in the photos and there are dog ear corners on some inside pages. The front and back covers are partly detached from the spine, more so on the front. They have marks including from old tape and there is a bit of pencil handwriting on the back cover. The spine has paper loss and old tape marks but the binding of the inside pages is tight and secure and there are no loose or missing pages. Please examine all the photos carefully and contact me if you have any questions. Pick up from Kensington NSW 2033 in Sydney Eastern Suburbs.
