Readers Digest Encyclopedias - Plants & Flowers & Gardening (HBs)
$44
SHIPPING OFFERED
Price is for both large hardbacks from Reader's Digest, or $25 each:- 'Gardener's Encyclopedia of Plants & Flowers' - The definitive reference work for Australia and NZ, & 'Encyclopedia of Gardening' - A practical guide to growing flowering plants, fruits & vegetables in Australia & NZ with step-by-step advice on techniques, planning & maintenance. Both are in very good condition.
Plants blurb:- This comprehensive & lavish guide to garden plants includes over 8000 plants available today - 4000 of them featured in rich, full-colour photographs arranged in a novel & practical way. With text contributed by a team of specialist plant experts, this ambitious book is designed to be a standard & enduring work of reference...
This large hardback is divided into three sections:- The first introductory section includes brief advice on Creating a Garden & a Planter's Guide which recommends plants for particular sites or uses. The main section is the Plant Catalogue with all the photos & associated info. To assist in locating plants without any previous knowledge of plants it is divided into types [trees, shrubs, ferns, etc] & then arranged based on visual attributes & their season of interest. Other plants with similar attributes are cross-referenced at the bottom of the pages. The last section is the Plant Directory which lists all plants alphabetically by genus with clear & detailed descriptions of plants not illustrated & cross-references to the photographs, as well as advice on cultivation.
Contents pages are shown in photo 3 [can be enlarged to make easier to read].
608 pages.
This comprehensive, large format hardback is in very good condition with pages clean & tightly bound. There are a few marks to the bottom edge of the closed pages, & a couple of small, very light marks to the top edge of the closed pages. The dust cover looks good as per photos 1 & 2 however it does have a few wrinkles, particularly around some edges, & there is a less than 1cm tear at the bottom of the spine [could easily be taped]. As with every copy of this book that I've seen, the Plant Directory section at the back of the book has yellowed [photo 6] as those pages are not glossy like the rest of the book [it is possible that they were originally off colour when issued]. Also two pages in that section have a surplus piece on the bottom corner sticking out & joining them together at that point. It's a manufacturing fault where that corner has not been cut correctly, so careful use of scissors or a guillotine could address it. [Please excuse the shadow of my tripod on the photo of the front & some light glare affecting the top left of some photos]

As per photo 7 of the Contents pages [can be enlarged to make easier to read], this large hardback is divided into 3 sections:- Creating the Garden; Maintaining the Garden; & Understanding the Garden.
