Button LW cactus Lophophora williamsii Camargo 20 fresh seeds
$19.99
This listing is for 20 seeds of LW cactus locality Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico. These are new season, fresh seeds as of 2023. Genuine Camargo genetics.
LW cactus is a widespread, solitary or clump-forming Mexican species that also has sub-populations in southern Texas in the USA.
There are many localised forms of the species as indicated by Bohata, Myšák & Šnicer in their review of the genus published in the special issue of Kaktusy in 2005. Furthermore, they suggest that the individual forms can be assigned to either one of two major groupings: southern type (with its centre at Entronque Huizache, SLP) and northern type (centred around Saltillo, Coah.).
Camargo is a rare northern type of the species that is unusual on account of being very far from other known sites. It is the most northernly population in Mexico and the only verified site for the species in the state of Chihuahua. There it grows on limestone hills almost invariably as single-headed specimens.
Maintaining the genetics of the many localised forms of the species is a popular pursuit among growers as plants from different populations often look unlike each other in terms of rib structure and general morphology with slight differences in skin colour as well.
The first 2 photos show plants in habitat at Camargo and the last 2 photos are an example of my test germination of new season seeds a few weeks ago where a 95% germination rate was achieved (the last photo is after I applied a top dressing).
Buyers are advised to use a fungicide - I recommend Captan - when sowing these seeds to optimise germination and seedling survival.
Printed instructions on successful germination included with purchase.
Check out my other LW, LK and LF seed listings, I have a whole heap of different localities for purists looking to maintain distinct genetic lineages including ones extinct in habitat.
$3.60 flat rate domestic shipping with tracking. I always combine post at the $3.60 flat rate if you buy multiple items.
