AN ENGLISH GEORGE III ANTIQUE 8 DAY LONGCASE [GRANDFATHER] CLOCK c 1780
IN A BEAUTIFUL ELM TIMBER CASE WITH EBONY CROSS BANDING
A tasteful GEO III clock in a rare solid ELM case, a beautiful grain with the original finish in excellent condition.
The dial has a swan painting in the arch and shell motif paintings in the corners, typical of Period 2 Georgian dials of the later 1700s.
The movement is a reliable timekeeper and has bell strikes on the hour and a seconds hand.
Winder and main door key included.
CONDITION: Minor shrinkage cracks on the left side of the hood and plinth. Some blemishes and old touch ups on the dial. Date dial not working. Warp in the solid elm backboard. Overall in very good condition for its age of 240 odd years, The ELM case is rare and has a notably lovely grain and finish.
SIZE: 234 H x 50 W x 25 D cm
I restore longcase clocks as a retirement hobby to prevent my body and brain from rusting. Hence why the lower pricing.
