Joseph Zbukvic was born in the then Yugoslavia in 1952 and migrated to Australia in 1970. He followed up his early studies in literature in Zagreb with studies in painting at the Gordon Institute of Technology, now Deakin University. He first exhibited in Melbourne in 1977. He has held numerous exhibitions since, and is now represented by high-profile galleries in Australia, Italy, China and the USA.
In his work, he aims to capture the mood of a scene through depicting the atmosphere in his expert handling of his preferred medium of watercolour, and has ably succeeded in this artwork.
