Lacquered Elm Chinese Cabinet - Goldfields C.1850
$3,000
SHIPPING OFFERED
The solid elm structure is sound with no movement. The quality of build is good - it is traditionally joinery built with mortise & tenon joints. The construction is solid & heavy. The feet are in excellent condition, & though some wear is evident, are not suffering rot as is common. The timber housed hinge assembly is in good original condition & operates well. The original lacquer finish is intact however does show wear. There is evidence that it has been polished with tung oil or a similar lacquer polish in it's early years, & added to my own waxing over the past 30 years, has produced a desirable mellow finish.
The drawers slide easily & the doors open & close perfectly with only minimal hinge wear.
The doors remove completely by opening them & sliding the bottom pin toward the centre of the cabinet.
The dimensions are - 34 inches tall, 23 inches wide & 13 inches deep
With its authentic, deep colour & traditional 19th Century architecture, this fine cabinet would add an instant period atmosphere to any room & prove a strong future investment.
Collection is available at Mount Victoria in the Blue Mountains of NSW near to Katoomba.
Careful, personal delivery is available for areas Bathurst to Sydney.
