1940'S CERAMIC BLUE & CREAM COLOURED CONDIMENT SET- ENGLISH
$10
One feature of this vibrant blue and cream salt pepper and mustard set is that each item is a different shape. The second feature is the markings etched into the glaze - LLanbedr, Beer, and Hampton Court. Llandbedr is a town in Wales, and it holds an annual Beer Festival, but as Hampton Court is in London, its significance is a mystery. Perhaps the person who gave it to my mother drank Llanbedr Beer in Hampton Court.
On the bottom of the mustard pot I can make out "Made in England" but the maker's name has almost disappeared. I suspect it may be MANOR WARE, as that pottery made souvenir items, and the printing is very similar to other MANOR WARE I have seen.
The set is probably from the 1940's to 1950's, as it was part of my Mother's estate, and it is in good vintage condition. The only defect is a crack in the lid of the mustard pot (see photo) which has been repaired, though it is still visible. The stoppers will probably need replacing, but I'll leave that up to the next owner.
