‘Trident’ Java fern (Microsorum pteropus) 3 cuttings
$10
The Trident fern is a rare species of Java fern originating from Borneo. The uniqueness lies in its splaying design with leaves forked to the central plant like a trident.
Java fern grows rather slowly in comparison to some other popular aquarium plants, but it's one of the hardiest and best-looking options out there. It will manage just fine in most aquarium conditions, and usually won't be nibbled away by your fish, it can even stand up to the rigorous attention of goldfish who eat or destroy most other aquarium plants.
Java fern is an epiphyte, meaning its roots attach it to something, like a piece of driftwood or tree roots, instead of rooting itself in sand or soil. The good thing about rhizome plants is there is no need for a substrate, in fact the rhizome or main stem will rot if it is buried beneath the gravel or soil. Java plants are best planted by tying or gluing them to a rock or wedging into driftwood decor and allowing them to attach themselves.
Java ferns also help to remove some of the ammonia from the water. They are a natural harborer of beneficial bacteria, and if you keep all of the water parameters in check an abundance of helpful bacteria will grow amongst the leaves. Java fern is also one of the best plants for shrimp tanks and snails.
The lush green foliage of Java ferns clustered together is always a pleasing addition to any aquarium. Java fern plants reproduce through apomixis. This species doesn't develop seeds. Instead, it sprouts perfect replicas of itself on its leaves which can be plucked off and replanted.
Listing is for 3 cuttings. Larger formed bunches may also be available at varying prices, enquire at purchase.
