VINTAGE REMUED GREEN, CREAM & BROWN GLAZED POTTERY VASE WITH APPLIED BRANCH HANDLE "196/9'
$120
This vase is from the Remued Early Series 1934 to 1940 - #196/9. The colours that represent Australia have been used -green (bush), cream (sand), blue (water) and copper brown (land)drip glaze ribbed vase with single branch applied handle. Signed and numbers on the base - Remued 196/9.
This is amazing piece and would fit into any Remued or pottery collection. This was produced by an Australian company and part of Australian history. Remued is highly prized and sought after, but I have priced accordingly due to some visible condition issues.
See condition as vase is extremely old (90 years old) and has some blemishes due to age.
History of Remued - "PPP", "Remued" & "Pamela" were trade names or marks used by Premier Pottery, established in Preston, Melbourne by two potters, David Dee and Reg Hawkins in 1929. At first the pottery was marketed with the "PPP" marking and the trade name "Remued" was introduced around 1933 and used alongside the "PPP" brand. The mark "Pamela" was introduced about the same time in an effort to convince customers that the wares marked with the "Pamela" name were created by a studio potter rather than in a factory, but this mark was in use for less than a year. From around 1934 the company was using the "Remued" name exclusively, and this coincided with the death of David Dee, and an introduction of additional capital by the future wife of Reg Hawkins, Non Deumer, whose name spelt backwards in "Remued".
Production at the factory continued under Reg Hawkins, with the head potter, Allan James coming a part owner in the early 1950's. The business continued through until the end of 1955 when the firm closed.
Approx. Measurements - 23.5cm height, rim lip 16cm, base diameter 10.5cm, vase widest measurement 16cm. Weight 1439g.
Condition - due to age it is expected to have some blemishes. Under the lip of the vase there is a small chip - see photo. The glaze has crazing, and I have magnified the glaze to show the hair line fracturing. There is a hairline crack on the rim (internally and through to externally) magnified to show. There are no other chips, cracks, or flea bites on this piece. These imperfections are not really visible without magnification & does not take away from how amazing this piece is for its age.
Photos form part of the description.
Pick up Slacks Creek. Postage can be calculated & arranged at buyers' expense but please be mindful that this is a very old piece of pottery.
