St James Op Shop South Lake, 13 Elderberry Drive South Lake open
THE WEST AUSTRALIAN Thursday April 27th OP SHOP SHOCK OR NEW NORM?
Op shops were once considered cheap as chips and good for a bargain or two. But it appears prices have risen so sharply they now rival those of high-street boutiques and, in reality, shopping at Kmart is cheaper. The West Australian visited 10 charity shops across the metropolitan regions to see if these prices existed here, too. The standard cost of a pre-loved outfit was an unwelcome shock. For Australians in need, the local charity shop had always been a source of affordable clothes, shoes, furniture and household items and 10 years ago you would have been hard pressed to find a T-shirt priced over $5, let alone a pair of shoes over $10. But times have changed as charitable stores try to find a balance between keeping prices affordable for those on lower incomes while also bringing in revenue to remain viable. n various Salvos, Australian Red Cross, Vinnies and Good Sammy stores across Perth, women’s shirts were being sold for $30, dresses for more than $90 and men’s trousers for up to $60.
NOT AT ST JAMES OP SHOP WE STILL SELL GOOD QUALITY CLEAN CLOTHES FROM $2.00 AS WELL AS LOTS OF OTHER ITEMS FROM AS LITTLE AS 50C. CALL IN TO SEE US ON FRIDAYS FROM 9.00AM TO 4.00PM AND THE 1ST & 3RD SATURDAYS 10.00AM TO 1.00PM AND GRAB A BARGAIN
