Dutch born Geurt Bout (1925- ) began his career at the age of sixteen at Driehoek, a large commercial pottery, making slipcast tableware. He studied ceramics at Utrecht, then started his own pottery in Naarden in around 1946, employing around twenty workers. In 1954, he emigrated to South Australia, working for a time at Koster's Pottery. In 1960, he set up the Bout Art Pottery at Crafers, SA,. Working entirely on his own, he made a variety of slip cast functional wares and a small number of wheel-thrown plates. He used imported English ball clay and (after experimenting with grinding his own) American glazes. The glaze was sprayed on to create graded colour effects. He also used a bronze overspray to create a metallic effect.

Lovely to see something else besides his jugs. That is a great vase! You're right about the lack of a clean stamp. I've never seen one either.
ALSO NOTE: The Powerhouse Museum in NSW has pieces of his in their collection!
