Jaboticaba Fruit Tree
Pick up from Tewantin, QLD 4565
The plant for sale is shown in the photo with a ruler. It is a seedling grown plant around 3 years old. All other images are for illustrative purposes only.
The Fruit
Jaboticaba fruit is also known as the Brazilian tree grape. I think it taste a bit like a grape / lychee, they are very tasty. The skin can be a bit firm, but its high in antioxidants if you do eat it. Eat them fresh of the tree a couple of times a year when it fruits over the warmer months.
Plant care
Jaboticaba trees are slow growing and it might take about 4-6 years until it fruits. To encourage the fastest growth it’s best to give it ideal growing conditions, especially in the early years. They are native to Brazil can often be found on riverbanks. They love lots of rich, slightly acidic soil and plenty of soil moisture. I found using Coir Mulch dug into the soil helped improve the moisture holding capacity for me. Does okay in part shade while young, and can adapt to full sun as it gets larger.
