Kathie van Arum - Dragon Fruit Plant
Pick up from Tewantin, QLD or posted to you (see end).
The plant for sale is a rooted and actively growing cutting shown in photo 2. Other images are for illustrative purposes only showing fruit from our parent plant and measurements taken on it.
Kathie van Arum is a unique hybrid dragon fruit with spectacular purple flowers and very tasty fruit but is not self-fertile and needs to be cross pollinated to get fruit set.
The Fruit
Kathie van Arum produce smaller fruit around 150-250g each with a flavour that I think is similar to berry flavoured coconut water. It is lovely and sweet too and one of my favourites.
Flavour: ★★★★★
Fruiting time: Late Spring to Mid-Summer
Plant Care
This cultivar is a bit slower growing compared to some of the other dragon fruit varieties; expect it to fruit in about 12-18 months. The cultivar needs to be cross pollinated with a different dragon fruit to set fruit. Dragon Fruit need a heavy support to climb up and hang over to flower. Being a jungle cactus, they prefer regular watering as long as it drains away quickly. They prefer rich organic soil and monthly feeds with composted organic plant foods. During early spring give additional potassium (potash of sulphate) to help develop a strong bloom response and good fruit set.
Plant Vigour: ★★★
If you purchase one of my dragon fruit plants, I can also provide a guide on how to trellis them for growing in pots.
Pick up: Please leave a message to arrange a time to see or purchase the plant for pick up
Postage (optional):
I can ship plants to QLD, NSW and ACT only. Shipping costs an additional $25 for a box that can fit up to 3 orange pots. You can combine shipping with other plants of mine. There is a minimum order of $30 on postal orders.
