The refreshing taste & texture of dragon fruits are a joy to the palette & are best eaten when pre-chilled in the refrigerator for a while prior to consuming the fruit.
The fruit grows on succulent fleshed stems that are usually trained to grow up a structure around 6ft tall where the resulting fruit can be easily picked.
Some instruction on growing the dragon fruit seeds are below compliments of Mr Google. I HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE GRAMMAR OR SPELLING ERRORS
The tiny seeds, planting too deep or too much watering the seeds will not germinate .1.Put the soil in the pot then watering soil well, placed half a day, waiting the water full penetration in the pot. 2. Covered the seeds by loose soil The soil thickness is generally 3 times the diameter of the seed,Seeds seem exposed soil surface, but still be covered, if the soil is too thick, the seeds do not have enough power break the soil 4. Covered with plastic film on pots ensure heat preservation and moisturizer.placed the pot under the light, if the light too strong, can put The fifth step:some paper mask, open a few minutes every 2 days to ventilation until germination 5. After the seeds have germinated, gradually remove film, a skill, first half a day off, completely removed the film, so that the seedlings gradually adapt to the environment How to sow
It is important to note that Dragon Fruit is a sub-tropical plant & is NOT a desert cactus. Scatter the tiny seeds onto a mix of fine potting soil mixed with peat moss or something to boost the water retention. Then cover the seeds with another fine covering of potting soil or soil & sand mixture. Be careful to keep the pot warm & damp but NOT wet! Try to maintain a steady temperature between 16ºc to 22ºc. Germination should take between 2 - 4 weeks. Strangely the first 2 leaves look like typical succulent cotyledons. These are the only leaves that the plant will ever produce! the next growth will be the triangular shape stem which is the true growth habit of the plant. There will be small spikes at intervals on the stem. Once the stems have 4 - 6 true leaves you can repot into individual pots. Make sure to give them plenty of sunlight once they germinate to avoid the plants becoming spindly. The plants sometimes put out Ariel roots & love to pull moisture from the environment they grow in. Adding peat moss to the compost will help to encourage moisture retention & rapid growth. BUT do not be tempted to leave the sitting in wet compost..... they must be able to free drain! *** Geography *** Pitaya Fruit, Pitahaya Fruit or commonly known as the Dragon fruit is among the most nutritious and wonderful exotic fruits. It is a favorite to many, particularly people of Asian origin. It features a mouth watering light sweet taste, an intense shape and color. Flowers are ornate and beautiful, and many related species are propagated as ornamentals. Pitahaya plants can have up to 4-6 fruiting cycles per year. The Pitaya is more commonly referred to as the dragon fruit. It is an extremely beautiful fruit that has dazzling flowers and an intense shape and color. The dragon fruit is usually a dark red color, although some types of this fruit are pink or yellow. The skin of the dragon fruit is a thin rind. The skin is usually covered in scales, and the center of the fruit is made up of a red or white, sweet tasting pulp. i have a number of colours, so ask.
