Trayon Slide-on Camper
$16,000 Negotiable
Trayon #247 for sale.
This Trayon has served us well for 18 years, but we have reached the age where we don’t feel the urge to tackle the sorts of tracks that we did a couple of decades ago. The Trayon didn’t restrict the Defender in the way that a heavier camper or a camper trailer would.
I bought this Trayon when it was just three years old from someone whose family was just about to grow too big to be comfortably accommodated. Since he was stationed in Katherine at the time he had it built, he had the factory fit a reverse cycle air conditioner. I believe it was the first Trayon with heating and cooling.
It comes complete with all the canvas walls and a heavy duty ground sheet to completely enclose the area under the awning. Since my wife and I never needed the extra space, and we rarely stayed in one spot for more than a night or two, we never used them so they are in excellent condition.
This dual cab Trayon was built before the company began adding extra features such as batteries and diesel heaters. It may not have all the bells and whistles of the latest models, but that is part of the reason that it is about $30,000 dollars cheaper than a new one.
Like many of the Trayons from that era, it is fitted with a 3 way fridge. Running it on gas suited us as we didn’t have a dual battery setup.
Before the company started fitting drawers, the previous owner made three heavy duty full length aluminium drawers which provide a huge amount of storage. He also modified the legs and the mounting points to reduce movement when the camper was off the vehicle. They are manhy times stronger than the original fittings.
It is located on the Central Coast of NSW and I would be willing to deliver it within a reasonable distance. Or for another $14,000, you could also buy the 1998 Defender which has carried it for the last 18 years.
