Genuine Turquoise Cabochon from the Number 8 mine Nevada -Old stock.
$55
SHIPPING OFFERED
Genuine turquoise cabochon from the famous Number 8 mine in Nevada USA. The rough was purchased from a reputable US stockist (after being stored for decades) and then hand shaped. The stone has been stabilised-about 96% of the world’s turquoise needs this treatment to harden it. Has a nice polish. Backed with Devcon plastic steel epoxy, then epoxy was coated with Diamond matt coat since it can potentially rust.Pics have not been enhanced. Can combine postage with my other items.
About the Number 8 Turquoise and Mine:
The Number 8 turquoise mine is in the Lynn mining district in Eureka County, Nevada. First mined in 1929. The mine is considered depleted and has not produced turquoise for a number of years, although much is still available through collections and other holdings. Host rocks for the Number 8 deposit consist of intensely altered quartz monzonite, shale, and thinly bedded black chert, which are complexly folded, faulted, and much altered. Turquoise is concentrated along quartz veins in the intrusive rock and along faults in the sedimentary rocks. The colour of Number 8 varies from light blue, blue with shades of green to beautiful dark blue. It is found with a black, golden, red, grey or brown matrix. Number 8 Turquoise is famous for its spiderweb patterning. No.8 also produced some of the largest turquoise nuggets ever found.
