EDWARD WARNER ETCHING (as G. MARTIN) P.L.C. PYMBLE 1930s

Etching of P.L.C. Pymble. Signed G. Martin, a pseudonym used by Edward Warner (1879 to 1968).
Born in London in 1879, Alfred Edward (Teddy) Warner studied printmaking and commercial art at a Polytechnic college. He learnt the techniques of stone lithography, woodcut printing, etching, airbrush techniques and scraperboard. By the time he married, he ran his own commercial studio in London. In November, 1910 he travelled to Australia with his in-laws. He went to Auckland, N.Z. where he was head of job-printing at 'The Star' and made his first etchings at this time.
In about 1919, he returned to Australia and worked as a commercial artist. Once more he resumed etching and exhibiting, earning a considerable reputation for his work. In the mid-1930s, Warner and his wife travelled around N.S.W. and Victoria in a caravan collecting material for his prints.
During the depression years, he worked under a number of pseudonyms including G. Martin.This etching is one of a series he executed of the university and schools in the Sydney area.

Warner is represented in the Art Gallery of N.S.W. (14 works), National Gallery of Australia, and other distinguished public and private collections.
Very good condition. The only visible irregularity are two light spots in the upper right. There is a slight yellowing of the paper. There is a very nice impression of the plate into the paper. There are no tears or foxing marks.
Approximately 10.5 x 15cm
Framed, matted and glazed. Ready to hang.
