This is the very first model - the second model M1887 did not appear for four years. The handle is Ash & the metal is Solingen cast steel sheet. A rolling mill heating stamp is numbered R439 Stahlwerk Rochling Volkingen & is struck to the inner crown. The unique dome spigots substantiate the maker's stamp. It presents in unusually good condition with no damage & a good patina. It has no dents & no repairs. The liner has been replaced. It was produced in factory Feldgrun & was later painted winter camouflage. It remains undisturbed & displays a good patina. The liner band & 2 split pins are original. - German Helmet Pickelhaube 1916WW1 issued & stamped to the crown by the maker "Julius Jansen Strassburg 1916". The neck piece "halswache" is stamped in ink "BAIX" which translates to Armee Korps Altona mannschaften issue. It is also stamped size 54 in ink & shows the initials of the issuing quatermaster. It is a high quality helmet & is finished with helmewappen escutcheons. The mounts are steel in the traditional WW1 Feldgrau oxidised finish. - German Helmet WWI Stahlhelm ET64 1916Produced in 1916 & stamped ET64 by Eisenhuettenwerke Thale A.G., Thale /Harz. The plate heating batch number BW280 is stamped to the inside of the crown & identifies the steel rolling mill as Stahlwerk Becker, Kiefeld. It was found in original condition with no damage, dents, rust or evidence of repair or modification. The painted finish was thin with losses.
