1997 Ferrari 456 GTA Automatic Coupe
$130,000 Negotiable
Seller's Description
The Ferrari 456 is a front-engined grand tourer produced from 1992 to 2003, replacing the 412 model as the company’s V12-engined four-seater. Designed by Pietro Camardella at Pininfarina, the elegant 456 was named from the fact that each cylinder displaced 456 cubic centimetres. Available in GT and (from 1996) GTA forms, the former with a six-speed manual transmission, while the latter had a four-speed automatic developed in partnership with FF Developments. It was only the fourth automatic transmission ever offered by Ferrari.
Power came from a 5.5 litre 65-degree V12 engine which was derived from the Dino V6, rather than the more conventional 60-degree V12s used in the 412 and Daytona. It produced 325 kW with four-valves per cylinder and Bosch Motronic M2.7 engine management, changed to Motronic M5.2 management in 1996. The V12 could push the 1690kg 456 and four passengers to 302 km/h, making it the world's fastest production four-seater for a time. It was also the most powerful road car ever developed by Ferrari to that point, aside from the F40.
The 456 used a tubular steel space-frame chassis clad with a one-piece composite bonnet and aluminium body panels. These were welded to the chassis by using a special "sandwich filler" called feran that, when laid between, allowed the steel and aluminium materials to be welded. The updated 456M (introduced in 1998), which was the last Ferrari model to use pop-up headlamps, was replaced in 2004 by the 612 Scaglietti.

Australian delivered example in a great colour combination
Supplied with books and service history
Beautifully presented in the original combination of Nero Carbonio Metallizzato over dark grey leather upholstery with black carpets, upper dash and door trims, this fabulous Ferrari 456 GTA was delivered through Scuderia Veloce Motors of Sydney on March 26, 1998 and was first registered in the dealer’s name, suggesting it may have been a demonstrator. The service book confirms the Ferrari has been routinely serviced by marque specialists in Sydney and, for a brief period, in Perth.
The current owner bought the car from the Gosford Classic Car Museum five years ago and has enjoyed the challenge of returning the 456 back to its former glory. A substantial sum has been invested with Cavallino Motorsport of Brookvale, NSW, who carried out the last annual service in August 2022 at 59,011 kms. Notable work includes overhauling the air conditioning (with the evaporator set replaced at great expense), a new set of Pirelli metric tyres to fit the original rims, the catalytic converter replaced, both bonnet and boot lid gas struts replaced, the headlight motors repaired, the dash binnacle retrimmed, electric window switches replaced, a new CD stacker unit installed and all four OEM rims refurbished. The cam belts were last done in September 2018, at the same time the engine and gearbox mounts were replaced, the front sway bar and tie rods were replaced and the brakes overhauled with new rotors front/rear.
Now showing approximately 64,000 kms on the clock and in strong mechanical and cosmetic condition, the Ferrari has been enjoyed on country roads and drives superbly. Representing exceptional value for money, the 456 GT is arguably the most affordable modern classic Ferrari worth owning and the four-seater configuration makes this a GT car perfect for the whole family. Sold registered in NSW until September 2024, the Ferrari comes with the original leather wallet containing a full complement of books, two keys (plus the all-important red master key), a fitted dust cover and a complete tool kit.

Rare manual Caldina. Mostly highway km's in my ownership between Wollongong and Liverpool, regularly serviced with full synthetic oils and genuine filters. Some bumps and scratches but a very honest little JDM wagon that is efficient, quick, and reliable. Basically a Celica GT-Four with twice the practicality at half the price.
