1998 FORD TRANSIT 5 SP MANUAL C/CHAS

1998 Transit 2.5 turbo diesel ute. The engine has been overheated, and the head gasket has been replaced but still not running well. The engine has had the troublesome Lucas's Epic electronic injection pump replaced with a new Bosch mechanical pump. 6 brand new tires fitted plus 2 near new spares. Airbags fitted to the rear. Clutch and timing belt replaced in the last 12 months. Toolbox pictured is not included. Currently registered but selling unregistered. Still starts and runs, but not well.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR: FORD TRANSIT (2013 TO 2018)

As with any work vehicle (and the only people to ever buy a Ford Transit to pick up the milk owned a dairy) you have to find out what it's been used for and by whom.

If, for example, the Transit in question has spent the last five years carting around pool chemicals (which are highly corrosive) there's a fair chance there could be rust in evidence.

And a house painter's Transit is likely to be a complete paint-splotch mess inside. So check carefully.

There was also a recall for 2.2-litre diesel versions of the Transit to check for faulty fuel-injectors which, thanks to an assembly fault, could fail anytime, anywhere, leaving the vehicle stranded and unable to be started.

A Ford dealer will be able to identify affected vehicles and whether they've been fixed or not.
