Vintage Magazines - early 1900s, 1929, 1930, 1972. $10 each.
1. All Star Souvenir Film Pictorial 1933, Reprinted 1972.
60 pages of wonderful articles about Leslie Howard, Marlene Dietrich, Mickey Mouse, Clive Brook, Ronals Colman, Joan Crawford and many more.
In great condition - just a little creasing along the spine.
2. The Playbox, Christmas publication, 28th Dec 1929.
12 pages of delightful, charming stories from an innocent era.
Condition is commensurate with age & material. Edges are somewhat tattered, there are a few tears along the edges, & there is a stain (oil?) that goes from front to last page. Each page still very readable.
3. Pegs Paper, 29th July 1930.
Peg’s Paper was aimed at working class women, and had less educational and more purely entertaining content than other magazines - focussing on fiction, fashion, housekeeping etc.
This specimen is in remarkably good condition given its age & construction. The centre staples are rusted & front cover is just hanging on, pages have yellowed around the edges & a very small piece has torn off the back page.
4. Very Rare!! Filet Lace Pattern Book No.10 - Collection Recko Grand Album De Modeles Filet. 202 Designs. Edited by Edouard Boucherit, Paris, early 1900s. Soft Cover.
Cannot lie - this poor old dear has had a rough trip for the last 120 years or so! It's clearly been very well used. The front cover is quite tattered & stained. The majority of the book is held together with sticky tape.
Excluding the front & back covers, there are 40 pages of exquisite designs. The bottom corner of Page 23 is missing, but doesn't impact the design. The remaining pages are actually in very readable condition.
Filet lace is one of the oldest techniques for lacemaking. It is also referred to as net lace, lacis, or filet brode. The techniques involved hand-making a square-mesh net foundation and filling in a portion to make a design.
