Antique Rose Pattern Crown Lynn New Zealand Plate and a Bowl
$75
SHIPPING OFFERED
Crown Lynn pottery, described as "typical Kiwiana," was a popular household item in the 1960s. The company moved into the home market after beginning as a brick and pipe producer in the 1920s. The company's prospects were helped by successful government lobbying for higher tariffs on imported goods. By 1960, it had reached a peak production of about 10 million pieces, making it the Southern Hemisphere's largest pottery manufacturer at the time. The prosperity of the 1960s, however, did not persist, as import limits were eventually eased, economic troubles arose, and company takeovers all contributed to Crown Lynn's extinction in 1989. Crown Lynn is, ironically, more popular than ever after 20 years, with collectors clamouring for pieces. If you look through any interiors magazine in New Zealand, you'll notice references to the brand. Crown Lynn has become popular at op shops and auction houses alike; businesses even hire out the company's trademark white swans. Crown Lynn is once again beloved by a new generation of Kiwis.
