SHIPPING OFFERED
This is a beautiful Campo del Cielo meteorite from Northern Argentina. The specimen has a nice and unique shape with a lot of character. There is a cleavage on one side which makes it extra interesting. This is an iron meteorite which used to be a part of the core of a failed planet. A great specimen for your collection or a perfect gift 🎁
The Campo del Cielo meteorite is a renowned meteorite that was discovered in Argentina. Its name translates to "Field of the Sky" in Spanish, reflecting the circumstances of its discovery although it was long known by the native people. Campo del Cielo is classified as an iron meteorite, composed mainly of iron and nickel with trace amounts of other elements. Iron meteorites are also renowned for their energy. My customers have told me their iron meteorites have helped particularly with pains related to the bones such as spine.
Believed to have fallen to Earth over 4,000 years ago, the Campo del Cielo meteorite is estimated to have originated from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It is thought that the original meteoroid was part of a much larger parent body that was shattered through collisions. The Campo del Cielo meteorite strewn field is located in the Gran Chaco region of northern Argentina, the crater field covers 18.5 by 3 kilometres. It consists of numerous fragments scattered across the landscape, ranging in size from a few milligrams to massive specimens weighing such as El Chaco (28.8 tons) and Gancedo (30.8 tons).
The meteorite's appearance is characterized by its distinctive fusion crust, a dark and often pitted outer layer formed when the meteoroid entered Earth's atmosphere and experienced intense heat. Beneath the fusion crust, the meteorite displays a granular and metallic interior known as a Widmanstätten pattern, which forms as a result of the slow cooling and crystallization of the iron-nickel alloy over millions of years.
