Cedar Wardrobe Circa 1865 - Original condition

A magnificent example of Australian colonial furniture. The architecture is impressive. It is of substantial proportions & presents in original, unmodified condition. It is made of select, well figured Cedar. The finish shows a mellow patina & it has accumulated a deep polish over it's 150 year life. It has not been stripped, repolished or refinished in any way. The structure is perfectly rigid, without movement, evidence of rot, borer or modification. Every screw & rose head nail is present. T

7 Drawer Cedar Chest of Drawers Circa 1850

It is complete with all original handles, locks, escutcheons & feet. It is structurally sound with no evidence of rot or borer & there are no splits in the top or side boards. The top & sides are single boards & all drawer fronts are well figured. The runners were restored in 1955 & all drawers slide well. All locks are operational however the original key is lost. It stands 50" tall, 48" wide & 19" deep.

Secretaire Bookcase Circa 1850

A formal two height, cantilever secretaire bookcase of elegant proportions figured in flame mahogany. It is a quality build that was made in London between 1845 & 1855. The structure is solid honduras mahogany. The backing boards, which are bolection panelling, & shelving are fine grade baltic pine. Dimensions are 7'6" x 4'. The secretaire drawer front is fielded with a burr mahogany panel which is segregated from figured crossbanding by ogee recessed moulding & finished in pencil cockbeading.

It was commissioned by the Roman Catholic Church (St. Augustine's Balmain) to be made by Sydney cabinetmakers Alex W.
