This is an early Australian Cedar Chest of Drawers that presents in original condition. It was made by cabinetmakers George Robert Debney of Adelaide Circa 1848. Extensive research was undertaken to confirm it's origin & establish the actual year of manufacture. It was ordered new & handed down within the one family until I purchased it in 2012. Stamped "James Dixon & Sons" & hallmarked Sheffield 1896. Weight is 41 grams. Both spoon & case present in original, undamaged condition. Commonly described as "Berry" spoons, they were used to serve jams & fruit conserves. They became popular around the turn of the century when Devonshire Teas became fashionable. This is a particularly good example - it is heavily built.
