A fairly recent model from the team at Philips that offers excellent radio performance and, excellent audio performance (with a larger than usual 100mm speaker) and when being used on battery, a very long playing life of 300 hours from just two D cells. The unit will also run from mains power (power lead included). The usual volume and tuning controls are present, as is a tone switch. The frequency is indicated on a dial with an attractive sliding “bar” presentation. Receives both AM and FM.

Klipsch Tangent 30 speakers were made in the late 1980s’’ and feature Klipsch’s twin bass and horn loaded compression driver design. These are highly efficient and do not require a high powered amplifier to drive them. These are not to be confused with Klipsch speakers of today which lack mid range and are more designed for surround applications. The Pioneer SX-225 is a very nice entry level amplifier which has a phono input for your vinyl and produces 40wpc which is plenty of power to driver most speakers. Importantly it has been recently tech serviced. The service and upgrades cost $150 so if you are after a cheap and reliable vintage amplifier with AM/FM capability, and a phono input this one might be for you. Happy to demo.
