HOLDEN BARINA Used Car Review

Pros

Cons

  • Neat exterior design
  • RS variant injected some welcome pep into Barina
  • Improved connectivity from 2016 onwards
  • Decent driving manners of XC generation (2001-2005) and latest model
  • Interior quality and equipment lacking prior to 2016
  • 1.6-litre engine is old and lacking performance
  • Struggles to stand out against some strong class contenders
  • Sporty RS was more warm hatch than hot hatch

This sporty little Barina Hatch-back has just arrived in our Wholesale yard and we are offering it for sale as traded without registration or rwc on behalf of a National Fleet disposal company and if not sold it will go to the auctions. With a little bit of work it could be back on the road, great for a town car . It drives great and you are welcome to test drive with our dealer plate and with a bit of a tidy up this would be a cheap little city vehicle and they are very economical as well. Ins

Putting up my barina for sale. It's honestly been a fantastic car and it has never given me any trouble, I drive it to shops and to the train station only as I work in the city. Its a 2005 model so it has some wear to the paint as you'd imagine hence the lower price. It's honestly a great little car. 108,xxx kms, rego, ready to go.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR: HOLDEN BARINA (2011 ON)

The first thing to check on any automatic Barina is that it selects all the gears properly and without hesitation. Count the gears as the car shifts up through them.

Don't forget to make sure Reverse selects promptly from Park, too. On the road, make sure the gearbox isn't slipping or flaring between gears as this is a sure sign of a worn gearbox.

Check the area around the coolant pump for leaks and check that the coolant level is correct in the expansion tank.

Barinas were also hard on engine mounts and a car with a broken mount can often be identified by a clunk when selecting a gear or when driving over a bump that sets up a vibration which feels like it's shaking the whole car.

Check that everything electrical in the Barina works as it should, too.
