HONDA ACCORD Used Car Review

The Accord put Honda on America's automotive map in the late 1970s, impressing with its high quality and low fuel economy. It would go on to become the US's most popular Japanese nameplate for 15 years running. Between 2003 and 2015, Honda Australia ran a twin-model strategy for the Accord. There was the medium-sized Accord Euro sedan with its sportier, European feel and the larger, wider-bodied Accord sedan that focused on comfort and offered a choice of a V6 engine.

Pros

Cons

  • Ride and handling of Accord Euro models
  • Bigger Accord's silky-smooth V6
  • Accord V6's strong value
  • Build quality and reliability
  • Best Accord model - the Euro - was dropped in 2015
  • Larger Accord was no driver's car like the Euro
  • Bigger Accord's conservative styling
  • Short-lived Hybrid variant was expensive

Car is mechanically good and drives me everywhere I need to go with no issues. However, vehicle has damage (shown in photos), a sensor issue (causing it to display check engine and turns VAC off) and also has no cold AC. 6 months rego I see no point in fixing them as I’ve been wanting to sell either way. Selling due to an upgrade.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR: HONDA ACCORD EURO (2008-2015)

The Euro version of the Accord was built in Japan, while the non-Euro version (badged simply 'Accord') was built in Thailand. That gives the Euro a big head-start in quality terms, because Japanese factories have high standards when it comes to assembly methods.

Not that there was anything major wrong with the Thai-built car, but it couldn't match the Euro for being squeak and rattle-free over time.

Some owners have complained about noisy brakes in the Accord Euro, and a revised pad material was specified by Honda along the way.

The rest of your time inspecting any Honda Accord Euro should be spent checking the service history for any evidence of skipped oil changes.

The V-Tec technology in these engines allows them to perform very well, but they won't appreciate dirty oil that will restrict and ultimately block the flow of oil around the engine's internals.

If the oil on the dipstick is black and thick, we'd be looking elsewhere.
