WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR: HYUNDAI ELANTRA (2011 TO 2015)

Plenty to like about the Elantra from a reliability point of view, backing up the reputation that Hyundai was trying hard to forge at this point in history.

On the interior, check that the steering wheel leather hasn't started to peel and make sure the silver highlights scattered around the cabin haven't begun to peel or flake off.

Check that the brake lights are working properly, as this was another problem for various Hyundais at this time. This was eventually traced back to a switch terminal in the wiring loom and could also lead to other problems including non-starting, inability to select a gear in the automatic version and even the cruise-control refusing to work.

Hyundai dealers were fitting a revised terminal to eliminate these problems.
