2005 R51 Pathfinder. Bought about six months ago to hold us over while we waited for our new car to arrive. Has brand new springs and shocks brand new driving lights and new led interior lights. Comes with a towbar and trailer brakes. Tyres are good and it has recently been serviced. Great way to get into off roading on a budget as it has a proper chassis and coils all round. It is a bit rough around the edges but has been reliable with room for the whole family.

This version of the Pathfinder's 'CVT' transmission has been a source of concern for some owners. We do have to make the point, however, that the bulk of complaints have been from North American Pathfinder owners.
In any case, the complaints over the CVT centre around a jerkiness to the operation which, to be fair, can often be a characteristic of CVTs as opposed to an actual fault.
The best advice is to drive the car first and see whether you could live with the way it works.
The Pathfinder was also subject to a few recalls in Australia, starting with a bonnet that could fly open at speed. Another recall was for faulty brake lights that could actually remain illuminated even when the brakes weren't applied. That would be funny if it didn't also mean that, in some cases, the car could then select Drive or Reverse from Park without the brakes applied.
There was also a recall to check the fuel tank for strength to prevent potential leaks and another for cars fitted with Nissan's accessory nudge-bar which could become detached thanks to incorrect fitment.
A Nissan dealer will be able to identify affected cars and check to see whether they've been fixed or not.
