I have been procrastinating for a while now, but today, my faithful pathy must go up for sale as I have bought a ute that more suits my current needs. I am the 3rd owner, picked it up at 260,000. The second owner told me that the first owner replaced the engine at 200,000 but had no receipts, so I had the timing chains changed by James at engine house Australia (I have receipt), and he said that it had been done not too long ago. I've looked after this car meticulously, it has served me and my

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR: NISSAN PATHFINDER (2013 ONWARDS)

This version of the Pathfinder's 'CVT' transmission has been a source of concern for some owners. We do have to make the point, however, that the bulk of complaints have been from North American Pathfinder owners.

In any case, the complaints over the CVT centre around a jerkiness to the operation which, to be fair, can often be a characteristic of CVTs as opposed to an actual fault.

The best advice is to drive the car first and see whether you could live with the way it works.

The Pathfinder was also subject to a few recalls in Australia, starting with a bonnet that could fly open at speed. Another recall was for faulty brake lights that could actually remain illuminated even when the brakes weren't applied. That would be funny if it didn't also mean that, in some cases, the car could then select Drive or Reverse from Park without the brakes applied.

There was also a recall to check the fuel tank for strength to prevent potential leaks and another for cars fitted with Nissan's accessory nudge-bar which could become detached thanks to incorrect fitment.

A Nissan dealer will be able to identify affected cars and check to see whether they've been fixed or not.
