SUZUKI GRAND VITARA Used Car Review
Suzuki's largest off-roader debuted in 1998, replacing the Vitara released exactly a decade earlier. Still relatively compact, its shrunken-4WD styling wasn't just for looks - the Grand Vitara was effective off the beaten track. A new-generation launched in 2005 continued a choice of three- and five-door body styles but the all-new design introduced independent suspension all round and a permanent four-wheel-drive system with a dual-range transfer case. There was a substantial upgrade in 2008, while a two-wheel-drive variant emerged in 2012.

The car has been mechanically reliable in my ~30k km of use, but does have its battle scars and blemishes from 18 years of life. The 2.0 engines in these are bulletproof, and are the pick of the bunch for pre-facelift (*****2012) manual versions as they have no known major issues, unlike the other engines offered at the time: timing chain (2.7)
