Rare 19th Antique Balinese Coin Doll 27cm tall x 10cm wide handmade coins, wood & gold paper. Balinese Dewi Sri Rice Goddess, made of numerous Chinese Kepeng coins strung together, similar to the "Lucky Coin Swords" used in China for weddings or in Feng Shui to keep away the Shar Chi (deadly breath). Body decorated with plates in front and gilded face, arms from elbows also made of wood. 19th century. The tradition goes back to the Tang dynasty, when these coins came to Indonesia through trade.
