Offered for sale is this large vintage 20th Century Papua New Guinea (Massim/Trobriand Islands) carved hardwood bowl, made post-WW2 and most likely dating from 1950’s to 1970’s. Given the scarcity of native tropical hardwoods through over-logging, pieces of this size (and depth) are now extremely hard to find as materials are very limited. Before collectors recognise this rarity and prices jump (as they should for such interesting work) the time to buy good pieces such as this example is now!
