Before their restoration journey begun these sounded just awful… but blown tweeters and crossover capacitors that were now 400% (!) out of tolerance (thereby overdriving drivers with incorrect frequencies) will do that… a lesson in life for any tempted to think equipment over half a century old will perform as it was designed to with no intervention! Once serviced (and, in some cases upgraded, using poly caps, and replacing the old 6.35mm socket input with binding post / banana plug terminals)

The United Sound Systems model plate gives the age away, they were a pro sound company active in Brisbane throughout the seventies and eighties.
