The tin measures about 9cm high with a 6cm diameter and is still a little over half full of turmeric. The smaller Harper's Star Brand 1 oz. net. tin of whole pimentos is just over 6cm high and has a diameter of 5cm. It also still has some pimentos in it but just enough to cover the bottom of the tin.

Postage is extra. Cash if picking up locally in Canberra. Antique fiddle pattern epns sugar tongs made in Sheffield, England by James Deakin & Sons between 1890 and 1910. The stamps on the inside of the tongs shows JD & S, a sideways shield shape inside of which is EP on top of NS, and then a lamp symbol inside an upright shield shaped stamp, all of which are electroplate marks for James Deakin & Sons. It is a little over 12cm long and is in good condition for it's age.

Both of these beaded pattern epns sugar tongs are stamped with "A1" and "EDWARD" plus a shield shaped stamp with a small crown shape above EP within it. The A1 means first quality silverplate. The "EDWARD" means it was made by George Edward in London, probably in the 1920s. The longer sugar tongs measure 14cm and the shorter about 12cm.

The tongs also have a registered design number 796343 which was registered in 1934 - 35. The G. L. & Co could indicate it was made by G. Loveridge and Co in Birmingham because the mark is the same as how that firm stamped their silverware but I'm not sure if that firm was still operating in the 1930s.

The handles are silverplated with perhaps some steel content under the plating because they stick to a magnet. However, the neck and heads of the trident fork, the slotted spoon, the pate knife and the slotted server are, I believe, made of silver. They are totally unaffected by a strong magnet. I haven't found out much about R F Morley & Co except that they were registered in the Sheffield Assay Office in 1886 (page 451 of Jackson's Silver and Gold Marks). The tin is labled "Assortment No. 23" and would have contained 12 different coloured pencils when purchased originally. It was made in Lane Cove in Sydney by Columbia and Cumberland Company Pty Ltd.

Plastics in Melbourne probably in the 1940-50s before Maurice Monk (the M in the M. & L.) started up the Swan Plastics company which is still around today. The diameter of the inside cylinder which would have held the lipstick is 12mm. The outside lever and the base attached to it inside the inner tube which was used to push the lipstick up the inner tube is missing. I purchased it as a sewing pin case which may have been it's latest use and explains why the lever is missing but it is definitely a very old metal lipstick tube
